Vol. 1 · No. 1 An Independent Review Updated June 15, 2026
The Marici
Accountability Review

A claim-by-claim record of public statements made by the nonprofit Marici (marici.org), and what could be verified from public sources.

Status of inquiry

Marici was contacted by this publication on [DATE OF YOUR EMAIL] with a detailed list of questions about the claims documented on this site. Because Marici does not publish an email address on its website, the questions were submitted via its public contact form and are also published as an open letter. As of June 15, 2026, no substantive response has been received. Marici's full reply will be published, unedited, when received.

§ 01 — For regulatory readers

The raw evidence, in one place.

If you are at the IRS, the California Attorney General's Registry of Charitable Trusts, a state Attorney General's charitable-solicitation office, the FTC, or another regulator with jurisdiction over a US 501(c)(3) — this page is for you.

This site documents specific, sourced concerns about the public representations of Marici (EIN 82-1536804), a US 501(c)(3) charity registered at 100 Pine St, Suite 1250, San Francisco, California (per the most recent IRS Form 990 of record on the ProPublica Nonprofit Explorer), and previously known by the legal name “Take Her Back.” The review is independently published, has not received funding from any third party, and was conducted using only primary public sources.

The methodology is at /sources/. The eight-claim review is at /claims/. The technical review of the AI claims is at /ai-analysis/. The formal open letter to Marici, transmitted via the marici.org contact form on 14 May 2026 and unanswered as of publication, is at /open-letter/.

§ 03 — Complaint channels

Regulatory channels with jurisdiction.

Each section below identifies the channel, the applicable form, and a pre-drafted factual summary you may adapt and submit. This site has no interest in regulator selection — only in making the public-record summary easy to transmit to whichever office a reader judges appropriate.

California Attorney General — Registry of Charitable Trusts

Jurisdiction: any charitable solicitation, registration, or fiduciary duty matter for a charity soliciting in California. Marici lists a San Francisco, California address in its IRS Form 990 of record.

IRS — Exempt Organizations Examinations (Form 13909)

Jurisdiction: tax-exempt status, prohibited inurement, and material misrepresentation by a 501(c)(3). Marici's federal tax-exempt status is the subject; submissions are by paper, fax, or email per IRS instructions.

Attach a completed Form 13909 to your message. The IRS does not accept the email body alone as a complaint of record.

State Attorney General — charitable solicitation

Jurisdiction: any state where Marici solicits donations. The National Association of State Charity Officials (NASCO) maintains the canonical directory.

Federal Trade Commission — deceptive solicitation

Jurisdiction: deceptive donor solicitations under the FTC Act (15 USC §45). The FTC has jointly conducted “Operation False Charity” sweeps with state AGs.

§ 04 — Federal-grant trail

Federal funding & charity-registry footprint.

A dated search of the federal funding databases and the principal state charity registries for Marici (EIN 82-1536804) and its predecessor entity Take Her Back. The pattern matches the product-registry trail: each cell is independently re-verifiable in under a minute.

Federal and state databases were searched both by EIN and by both organisational names. A negative search result is not proof an underlying arrangement does not exist privately — only that, as of the date below, no public-registry entry could be located. Marici is invited, via the open letter, to direct this site to any public-registry record that should be added.

Channel Search Result (as of 2 June 2026)
USASpending.gov — federal awards database (the official source of US federal contract, grant, loan, and direct-payment records) Grants (codes 02 / 03 / 04 / 05) to recipient name “Marici” or “Take Her Back”, 2007-10-01 to 2026-06-02 (the API's full available window) No awards located. API returned results: [].
USASpending.gov Federal contracts (codes A / B / C / D) to the same recipients, same window No contracts located.
Federal Audit Clearinghouse — the Single Audit repository (a nonprofit expending $750,000 or more in federal awards in a fiscal year is required to file) Single Audit filings by “Marici” or “Take Her Back”, audit years 2018–2024 No filings located.
Grants.gov — federal opportunity and awards portal Recipient or applicant name “Marici” / “Take Her Back” No award notice located.
IRS Tax Exempt Organization Search EIN 82-1536804 — current Publication 78 (tax-deductible status) and Form 990-series filings Registration confirmed; charity is listed in Publication 78 (tax-deductible donations) and the most recent Form 990 of record is the FY2024 return.
ProPublica Nonprofit Explorer — mirrors the IRS Master File EIN 82-1536804 Registered address: 100 Pine St, Suite 1250, San Francisco, CA 94111. Ruling date: 1 September 2017. Subsection 3 (charitable). NTEE code P20 (human services, multi-purpose). FY2024 revenue: $4,147,171.
California AG Registry of Charitable Trusts EIN 82-1536804 — California registration status, RRF-1 / IRS Form 990 filings, AB-488 status Public verification record exists and is searchable. Specifically requested by California regulators in the event of a complaint.
Maryland AG Charitable Organizations Search Organization name “Marici” / “Take Her Back” Registration status varies by state; the Maryland public lookup is provided as a reference for any regulator with cross-jurisdictional questions.
New York AG Charities Bureau Organization name “Marici” / “Take Her Back” New York requires registration of nonprofits soliciting in NY. The bureau's public search is the canonical channel for verification.

Reading the table. The combination “registered charity (positive) + no federal awards (negative)” is the editorial point: Marici is a legitimately registered tax-exempt entity whose operations have not, on the public federal record, been audited or funded as a federal grantee or contractor. Federal grantees of the scale Marici's claims would imply (e.g. providers of anti-trafficking intelligence systems used by named federal agencies) ordinarily appear in USASpending. Their absence is recorded here as a question the open letter has asked Marici to answer, not as evidence of wrongdoing.

§ 06 — Editorial note

A note on framing.

This site does not allege fraud. It documents an absence of public artefacts ordinarily produced by organisations making representations of the scale Marici has made. Where evidence may exist privately — under non-disclosure agreement, in unindexed internal documentation, in classified law-enforcement files, in unpublished research — it has not been disclosed to this publication. Marici has been invited, via the open letter, to provide any such evidence. Marici's full response will be published on this site, unedited, when received.

A regulatory finding is for a regulator to make. This site exists to make the underlying record findable.
